Trump support for Ukraine less than 1-% of the cost of Iran War.

After the American Century

Under Trump, the inconclusive war against Iran has cost the US c. $155 billion, which is 310 times more than his $0.5 billion to help Ukraine.

Mr Trump keeps saying that the United States gives Ukraine massive economic support. At a news conference on October 20, 2026 he said he US had given Ukraine $350 billion. This is so inaccurate a statement that it is a lie. During the Biden presidency, the US was a major donor to Ukraine, yet at the end of the Biden presidency the total was about one third of $350 billion. Under Trump, almost nothing has been sent to Ukraine except funds remaining to be dispersed that Biden allocated before he left office.

The following chart shows that  since trump became president the total, even including the millions that remained of Biden's contributions, has been less than half a billion dollars. That may sound like a good deal, but compared to much smaller European countries, the US has given Ukraine almost nothing since Trump took office.

Instead, in the war against Iran he has spent more than $45 billion, while incurring damages to American bases and equipment estimated at $48 billion. Add to this the higher gasoline prices and inflation that the war has cost consumers. The total cost of the Iran War has already been $155 billion, or $1,185 for each household in the US.

From January 2025 until August, 2026, Germany has given 30 times more than the US.

The largest donor per capita is Norway. There are 5.7 million people in Norway compared to 342 million in the US.  That is a ratio of 60 to 1. Yet Norway has give €7.2 billion to Ukraine, compared to the measly €0.48 billion from Washington. If the US wanted to match Norway's per capita support for Ukraine, the cost would be €432 billion.

If the US wanted to match the per capita contributions of 20 million Scandinavians, which have given €17.6 billion, the equivalent total would be roughly €301 billion. But under Trump the US has given no humanitarian aid and no financial aid, and in military aid a pathetic 0.48 billion.

The sad, but likely outcome?  Trump could have won in Ukraine. Instead, he risks losing to Russia twice.

Trump and Putin: Is this Treason?

After the American Century

Since starting his second term as President, Mr. Trump has given little support to Ukraine - far less than either Denmark or Sweden or Britain. He has pretended to seek a negotiated peace, but his negotiators have spent more time talking with Russia than with Ukraine. Mr. Trump has even adopted Russian talking points.

All that has been clear for some time. Now, however, Mr. Trump has openly taken sides, choosing to break the sanctions imposed by the US Congress, and support Russia economically. He has also chosen to buy diesel fuel from Russia.

One wonders at the timing of this decision. It is two weeks before the midterm elections. Most Americans do not support Putin. It is difficult to see this as a way to garner more votes for the Republicans. The more logical explanation is that Trump would like to provoke protests so he can send in troops to quell the unrest and then try to stop the elections from being held at all. But there may not be any rational explanation.

Meanwhile, Putin is supporting the Iranians against the US in its war with Iran. Russia has engaged in repeated hydrid war attacks on the United States and its European allies. Making a deal withMoscow right now looks a lot like treason. He is giving aid and comfort to Russia. The Constitution states the following:

Article III
Section 3, Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.

Is Trump giving "aid and comfort" to Russia? I leave the reader to ponder this issue, and suggest the following two readings.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies concluded in 2025 that
"Russia is engaged in an aggressive campaign of subversion and sabotage against European and U.S. targets, which complement Russia’s brutal conventional war in Ukraine. The number of Russian attacks in Europe nearly tripled between 2023 and 2024, after quadrupling between 2022 and 2023."

NATO declared in September, 2025, "Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 have fundamentally changed the security environment in Europe, and its hostile actions towards NATO members and partners – including airspace violations, cyber attacks and acts of sabotage – are increasing in frequency. NATO has responded by significantly strengthening its readiness to protect and defend all Allies"

There are many other sources one might cite, but Russia would seem to be an enemy.

First through inaction and now through treachery, Trump has ensured the deaths of thousands of Ukrainians, many of them women and children. He now has threatened the peace of Europe and on his biography he has written his name in blood.
